The upstream parser accepts exactly one asterisk, requires a patterned fetch source to have a patterned destination, and only permits the one-sided pattern form for pushes and negative refspecs.
Apply those rules uniformly instead of skipping validation for one-sided specifications. This rejects general wildcard expressions and one-sided fetch patterns while retaining valid one-sided push patterns.
Accept partial negative refspecs as Git does, and compare their source literally during matching instead of expanding it through the positive partial-ref lookup rules. Thus a negative source such as ^main parses but does not implicitly match refs/heads/main.
Remove the now-unreachable wildmatch matcher, its complex-glob tests, and the direct gix-glob dependency. Update the instruction documentation, including the fact that deletion destinations cannot be patterns, and fix the negative-object-hash error text.
Extend and regenerate the Git baselines for one-sided fetch and push patterns, invalid wildcard syntax, and partial negative refspecs. Remove the baseline exceptions so every recorded result must now agree with Git.

parse_refspec() in refspec.c locates the separator with
rhs = strrchr(lhs, ':'), so everything before the final colon is the source.
That matters for push, where the source is a revision rather than a ref name and
may itself contain a colon - :/message searches commit messages, <rev>:<path>
addresses a blob or tree. Both are accepted by Git today.
Splitting on the first colon instead made :/message:refs/heads/x parse as the
destination message:refs/heads/x, which is not a valid reference name, so the
spec was rejected outright.
Fetch is unaffected, as its source is a ref name that cannot contain a colon. Baseline entries cover both operations; both archives are regenerated because the archive identity derives from the fixture script.
<csr-id-05a126f9b4bdde603a1c5a9b5553c8d1dbb5d484/> take any non-glob push source, like Git does. Git means the source of a push refspec to be an extended SHA-1, but says of it that "there is no existing way to validate this" and takes whatever is written:
This crate checked it against a ref name, falling back to parsing it as a
rev-spec, which gix-revision can do without a repository. That is stricter than
Git for seven of the shapes now in the baseline, among them ::a, ~:x,
a^{bogus}:x and a@{:x.
The check is dropped for that one side only. A missing destination still requires the source to be a ref name, an empty destination is still refused, the destination itself is still validated, and both glob rules still hold, all as before. Negative refspecs never reach it, as a destination rejects them first.
Ten entries are added to the parse baseline, which records git's own verdict;
the last two of them are destinations Git refuses, to pin that side. Both
archives are regenerated, since just unit-tests runs this crate under sha256
as well.
With the rev-spec fallback gone, so is the only use of gix-revision here, the
Error::RevSpec variant that carried its failures, and the last use of
gix-error. Both dependencies are dropped.

parameters without implementing scheme-specific splitting and decoding.
Recognize delimiters before decoding and reuse validated original spelling
to borrow decoded bytes. Preserve encoded separators, nested escapes,
ordered duplicate query keys, and literal percent text after construction
or mutation. Query pairs use form decoding (+ becomes space); SSH/SCP
paths, existing accessors, and serialization keep their behavior.
Reference Git's connect.c::parse_connect_url() and url.c at
1630431f326e. Use fetch-pack --diag-url to check SSH delimiters;
standalone url-parse does not model that transport.

gix-fs already provides the filesystem helpers and recursive walkers.
Keeping their duplicate implementation in gix-features adds unnecessary
filesystem dependencies to the foundational feature crate.
Remove the fs module and the walkdir and fs-read-dir features. Migrate
workspace callers to gix_fs, move traversal requests to gix-fs/walkdir,
and update the manifests, lockfile, traversal documentation, and feature
check script together.
fs with gix-fs (cf1ba49)<csr-id-886d6b58e4612ac21cc660ea4ddf1dd0b49d1c6e/> checkout respects options for core.protectHFS and core.protectNTFS.
This also adds gitoxide.core.protectWindows as a way to enforce
additional restrictions that are usually only available on Windows.

Previously, it was possible for a trampling herd of threads to consolidate the disk state. Most of them would be 'needs-init' threads which could notice that the initialization already happened, and just use that.
But a thread might be late for the party and somehow manages to not get any newly loaded index, and thus tries to consolidate with what's on disk again. Then it would again determine no change, and return nothing, causing the caller to abort and not find objects it should find because it wouldn't see the index that it should have seen.
The reason the thread got into this mess is that the 'is-load-ongoing' flagging was racy itself, so it would not wait for ongoing loads and just conclude nothing happened. An extra delay (by yielding) now assures it either seees the loading state and waits for it, sees the newly loaded indices.
Note that this issue can be reproduced with:

invalid ones. Improvements include the added support for ssh aliases (github:byron/gitoxide has previously been parsed as local path), adjustments
around the interpretation of colons in file names (previously we disallowed colons that were not followed up with a slash character) and some smaller
changes that bring the interpretation of file urls more in line with Git's implementation.
There are still many (edge) cases in Git's url parsing implementation which are not handled correctly by Gitoxide. If you notice any such deviation please open a new issue to help us making Gitoxide even more correct.

Command preparation previously rejected every first word containing an equals
sign, so valid environment prefixes required a shell while executable names
such as tool=name could be misinterpreted as assignment-only commands. Its UTF-8
conversion also made the direct-versus-shell decision depend on encoding.
Git for Windows uses only the interpreter path from a shebang. Parsing the
suffix as shell words invented incompatible semantics and could let executable
contents supply additional interpreter options.
This provides two major fixes:
Reuse the parser in gix-diff and cover its full byte-input domain with focused
unit tests and a dedicated fuzz target.
Store the required command in Outcome::command, reserve Outcome::args for
actual arguments, and reject command lines that produce no executable. Command
preparation can now consume the parser result directly without another emptiness
check or first-element extraction.
The command-line parser is consumed primarily by process-launch code, yet it
returned byte strings that every caller had to convert before constructing
std::process::Command.
Return OsString for the required command and its arguments so callers can use
them directly while preserving arbitrary Unix bytes. Reject values that the host
cannot represent instead of risking a conversion panic; environment assignments
remain byte-oriented for parsing.
Manual argument splitting moved leading assignments into the process environment
and spawned the parsed program directly. On Windows, Rust's lookup can fall
outside the assigned PATH and cannot launch extensionless scripts through their
shebang.
Keep assignment-prefixed commands on the shell path on Windows while retaining
manual splitting for other commands and platforms.
invoke existing absolute paths directly
Shell detection treated metacharacters in every command as evidence that a
shell was needed. This caused resolved executable paths, notably Git for Windows
programs under Program Files, to be parsed as command text and split at spaces.
Recognize existing absolute files as already-resolved programs and bypass shell
detection for them.
Requiring an absolute path avoids promoting a relative path that happens to name
a file in the repository to a program and accidentally executing it.

The current implementation might cause refspecs to end up ignored as

that can contain partial names, similar to what git does.
