The parser dropped the find() delegate call whenever the pattern in
<rev>^{/<pattern>} was empty, turning the whole navigation step into a
no-op on the grounds that an empty pattern matches everything.
That reasoning only holds for a commit anchor and a non-negated pattern.
Git routes <rev>^{/...} through GET_OID_COMMITTISH and searches from
the peeled commit even when the pattern is empty - object-name.c notes
"$commit^{/}. Some regex implementation may reject empty regex, but this
is safe". Thus git rev-parse 'b-tag^{/}' yields the commit the
annotated tag points at, while gix returned the tag object itself. A
negated empty pattern matches no commit at all, so Git fails HEAD^{/!-}
while gix silently succeeded with HEAD.
Now the parser always forwards the pattern to Navigate::find(), whose
implementation in gix already handles the empty case correctly on both
the revparse-regex and the substring fallback paths: it peels the
anchor to a commit first and treats an empty pattern as match-all, which
fails naturally when negated. The delegate behind gix revision explain
makes no assumption about patterns and needs no change.
The make_rev_spec_parse_repos fixture gains baselines for @^{/},
@^{/!-} and b-tag^{/}; its archive needs regeneration.
~0 is a no-op only after resolving its anchor to a commit. The parser cannot
know whether the anchor is an annotated tag, and suppressing NthAncestor(0)
prevents higher-level delegates from peeling it as Git does. Always forward zero
so each Navigate implementation can apply its own object semantics.<csr-id-8640d5b86526c03e029c7d591084d96ec5d0fb10/> accept :3:<path> for the 'theirs' index stage, like Git does.
The parser had arms for stages 0, 1 and 2 and let everything else fall through
to the catch-all, so :3:file was looked up as a path literally named
3:file at stage 0. gitrevisions(7) documents a stage number of 0 to 3, and
Git resolves :3:file to the blob from the branch being merged.
The trait's own docs said stages range from 0 to 2 and labelled them base, ours and theirs. That is off by one: 0 is unconflicted, and 1, 2 and 3 are the common ancestor, the target branch and the branch being merged. The docs came first, in cee04e126, and the arms written twenty minutes later in ea22d3e7c matched them.
This is marked breaking because a Navigate implementation written against the
old documented range can now be handed a stage it does not expect. The one in
gix already maps 3 to Stage::Theirs, but the one behind gix revision explain did not, which the next commit addresses.

Recognize delimiters before decoding and reuse validated original spelling
to borrow decoded bytes. Preserve encoded separators, nested escapes,
ordered duplicate query keys, and literal percent text after construction
or mutation. Query pairs use form decoding (+ becomes space); SSH/SCP
paths, existing accessors, and serialization keep their behavior.
Reference Git's connect.c::parse_connect_url() and url.c at
1630431f326e. Use fetch-pack --diag-url to check SSH delimiters;
standalone url-parse does not model that transport.

This also adds gitoxide.core.protectWindows as a way to enforce
additional restrictions that are usually only available on Windows.
Note that core.protectNFS is always enabled by default, just like
it is in Git.

Previously, it was possible for a trampling herd of threads to consolidate the disk state. Most of them would be 'needs-init' threads which could notice that the initialization already happened, and just use that.
But a thread might be late for the party and somehow manages to not get any newly loaded index, and thus tries to consolidate with what's on disk again. Then it would again determine no change, and return nothing, causing the caller to abort and not find objects it should find because it wouldn't see the index that it should have seen.
The reason the thread got into this mess is that the 'is-load-ongoing' flagging was racy itself, so it would not wait for ongoing loads and just conclude nothing happened. An extra delay (by yielding) now assures it either seees the loading state and waits for it, sees the newly loaded indices.
Note that this issue can be reproduced with:

around the interpretation of colons in file names (previously we disallowed colons that were not followed up with a slash character) and some smaller
changes that bring the interpretation of file urls more in line with Git's implementation.

This makes the graph used in gix-negotiate shareable by callers, which can
do their own traversal and store their own flags. The knowlege of this traversal
can be kept using such shared flags, like the PARSED bit which should be set whenever
parents are traversed.
That way we are able to emulate the algorithms git uses perfectly, as we keep exactly the same state.

Previously I thought that serde1 is for future-proofing and supporting multiple serde versions

serde seems to be the way to go into the future.

Due to the importance of best-suited data structures for maximizing
performance we need to take control over them. This is best done using
a dedicated crate that can cater to our very needs. That very crate is
named git-hashtable.<csr-id-3d8fa8fef9800b1576beab8a5bc39b821157a5ed/> upgrade edition to 2021 in most crates. MSRV for this is 1.56, and we are now at 1.60 so should be compatible. This isn't more than a patch release as it should break nobody who is adhering to the MSRV, but let's be careful and mark it breaking.
Note that git-features and git-pack are still on edition 2018
as they make use of a workaround to support (safe) mutable access
to non-overlapping entries in a slice which doesn't work anymore
in edition 2021.
