verifySignature throws rather than returning false on several attacker-controlled inputs: an unknown s.t hits its default: branch, a malformed eip191
#7341 44395d0 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Fail closed when CACAO signature verification throws, and stop those throws escaping
the authenticate response handler.
verifySignature throws rather than returning false on several attacker-controlled
inputs: an unknown s.t hits its default: branch, a malformed eip191 signature
throws out of Signature.fromHex/recoverAddress, and a non-CAIP-2 chain in iss
throws before the eip1271 request is made. validateSignedCacao guarded only
formatMessage, so those propagated to callers.
On the dapp side that escaped onAuthenticate, an async event listener whose rejection
nothing observed, so authenticate() stayed pending until the one hour request expiry
instead of rejecting — and under node's default unhandled-rejection handling the
process exited. validateSignedCacao now fails closed, keeping its documented boolean
contract, and the authenticate response handler routes any remaining failure to the
same rejection path.
Also models uri on AuthTypes.CacaoPayload, since formatMessage signs aud || uri
and a wallet may send either.
#7341 896c6b0 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Bind wc_sessionAuthenticate responses to the request that was sent.
A verified signature only proves that the address in iss signed the CACAO's own
payload. validateSignedCacao reconstructs the signed message from that same
payload and does not take the request as an argument, so it cannot tell an answer
to this request apart from a genuine CACAO the same wallet issued for a different
site — and no caller compared domain, aud or nonce either. A CACAO a user
signed for one site was therefore accepted by an unrelated dapp.
Authenticate responses are now checked against the originating request with the new
isCacaoBoundToRequest export from @walletconnect/utils, which compares domain,
aud and nonce, requires the chain in iss to have been requested, and enforces
exp/nbf. Fields that wallets legitimately rewrite are deliberately not compared:
populateAuthPayload appends the recap statement, rewrites resources and narrows
chains, so comparing those would reject every conformant wallet.

#7341 f5ac876 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Abort authenticated session settlement when a CACAO fails signature verification.
On the dapp side, a wc_sessionAuthenticate response whose CACAO failed verification
rejected the caller's promise but did not stop the handler, so a session was still
derived, subscribed and persisted from the unverified payload — leaving a session in
client.session for an account nobody proved control of, even though the application
had been told that verification failed.
Applications that relied on a session appearing despite a rejected authenticate()
promise will no longer receive one.

579b882 Thanks @jakubuid! - WalletConnect Pay: confirmPayment now takes data, whose elements may be plain signature strings or JSON objects/arrays (e.g. TRON's {raw_data_hex, signature} confirm payload), forwarded to the gateway as JSON. signatures is deprecated and used as a fallback when data is omitted. Bumps yttrium to 0.10.59 (WASM blob + iOS YttriumWrapper) and 0.10.60 (Android yttrium-wcpay).Minor Changes #7329 fa9227f Thanks @jakubuid ! - Collect TVF transaction hashes for Stellar: compute the canonical transaction hash from signed stella
fa9227f Thanks @jakubuid! - Collect TVF transaction hashes for Stellar: compute the canonical transaction hash from signed stellar_signXDR envelopes (V0, V1 and fee-bump — with the signature-array scan hardened against signatures ending in zero bytes) and extract tx_hash from stellar_signAndSubmitXDR responses.#7304 83ba7d4 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Remove unused declared dependencies (@walletconnect/safe-json from utils, @walletconnect/types from pay, @walletconnect/core and @walletconnect/jsonrpc-provider from pos-client, events from react-native-compat, uint8arrays from signer-connection, @walletconnect/jsonrpc-provider, @walletconnect/jsonrpc-utils and @walletconnect/sign-client from ethereum-provider). No runtime changes.
#7293 a610bfe Thanks @futurehua! - Fix the generated createRecap declaration so it can be consumed with skipLibCheck: false.
#7327 f8bfc24 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Fix isValidEip1271Signature treating any message that starts with 0x as an already-hashed digest. A plaintext SIWE/CACAO message whose domain begins with 0x (e.g. 0xsplits.xyz) was spliced unhashed into the eth_call calldata, so EIP-1271 verification for smart-contract wallets deterministically failed against such dApps. Only a 32-byte hex string is now treated as pre-hashed; everything else is hashed per EIP-191.

fa9227f Thanks @jakubuid! - Collect TVF transaction hashes for Stellar: compute the canonical transaction hash from signed stellar_signXDR envelopes (V0, V1 and fee-bump — with the signature-array scan hardened against signatures ending in zero bytes) and extract tx_hash from stellar_signAndSubmitXDR responses.Updated dependencies [`63ff999`]:
#7252 cd32ff1 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Add TVF extraction for Canton's canton_prepareSignExecute.
#7247 3ea740e Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Reject SIWE/CAIP-122 statements containing line breaks in formatMessage. Per EIP-4361 the statement is a single line, and embedded \r/\n (from a caller-supplied statement or untrusted recap-derived text) could forge other fields (URI, Nonce, etc.) in the signed message. The check runs on the final statement after recap formatting, and validateSignedCacao now returns false for such malformed payloads instead of throwing.
Updated dependencies [63ff999]:
63ff999 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Deprecate the authenticate method on Sign Client. It is marked @deprecated in the type definitions and logs a runtime warning when called. #7253 63ff999 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Deprecate the authenticate method on Sign Client. It is marked @deprecated in the type definitions and logs a runtime warning when called. Use connect()'s authentication parameter instead to establish an authenticated session.
#7255 3233b47 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Reject plaintext TYPE_2 envelopes delivered over the relay transport. TYPE_2 payloads are now only handled in link mode in the sign engine (onRelayMessage) and pairing (registerRelayerEvents) relay handlers.
#7254 4af4524 Thanks @ganchoradkov! - Enforce controller authorization on session update. Incoming wc_sessionUpdate requests are now rejected (UNAUTHORIZED_UPDATE_REQUEST) unless the sending peer is the session controller, and the public update() method now throws when called by a non-controller. This prevents a non-controller peer (e.g. a dApp using a custom SDK) from mutating a session's namespaces.
